# Photo studio: edit and reuse images

Upload or choose a photo, edit it with design tools or AI, save it to the workspace gallery and use it in a campaign.

## What Photo studio does

**Photo studio** is the workspace's shared **Saved photos** gallery and image-editing entry point. Start from an upload, stock photo or campaign photo. To generate a new image from post text, use the separate [Add media window](https://docs.lead-knight.com/en/photo-studio/add-media/) in campaign composition.

Viewers can view and download saved photos, but do not get editing controls. Saving an image does not publish a post.

## Open and edit a photo

1. Open **Photo studio**.
2. Choose **Upload a photo**, **Find a stock photo** or **From your campaigns**. Upload accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF; AVIF is converted for editing.
3. Choose the photo to open **Edit image**. A saved photo can be reopened through **Edit**.
4. Choose the tool needed for your change:

| Tool | Use |
|---|---|
| **Adjust** / **Filters** | Change appearance and filter intensity. |
| **Crop & rotate** | Set an aspect ratio, crop, straighten, rotate or flip. |
| **Text** | Add wording and choose font, colour, alignment and text direction. |
| **Draw** / **Shapes** | Add marks, shapes or arrows. The eraser removes drawing strokes, not the original photo. |
| **Logo & images** | Add an image, workspace logo or profile photo when available. |
| **Layers** | Select, move, hide, lock, duplicate or reorder added elements. |
| **AI** | Request a change or remove a background with the available options. |

5. Use **Undo**, **Redo** and **Hold to compare** to review changes.
6. Choose **Save**. Wait for gallery saving and **Photo saved** before treating the gallery entry as complete. Use **Edit again**, **Download**, **Use in a new campaign** or **Done**.

The editor may resize the saved image to fit the device and upload limit. If original design images are missing, it can open the saved flattened image with a notice rather than restoring every editable layer.

## Edit with AI and compare the result

1. Open **AI** and fill **Describe your change**, for example a lighting or background change. The prompt allows up to 1,000 characters.
2. Choose **Apply** and wait for the result. AI editing uses the daily AI-image allowance shown in the editor.
3. Compare **Before** and **After**.
4. Choose **Use this image** to accept or **Try again** to request another result. Generating a preview is not the same as accepting it.
5. Read any flattening confirmation before continuing: text, stickers, adjustments and cropping can become part of the new photo. AI background removal on the whole photo can clear existing layers/cropping/adjustments. Undo remains available.
6. Choose **Save** when the final composition is ready.

## Background-removal quality options

- **Remove background (free, on this device)** runs locally and may first ask to download its model.
- **Higher quality (uses 1 AI image)** uses one image from the daily AI allowance.

Check whether the action applies to the selected image or the whole photo. Unlock a locked image in **Layers** before editing it. These are background-removal choices, not a universal quality selector for every image-generation action.

## Use photos in posts

From **Saved photos**, **Use in campaign** starts a new campaign with that image. After saving, **Use in a new campaign** provides the same handoff. Review the draft and its destinations in [campaign creation](https://docs.lead-knight.com/en/campaigns/create-manual/); handing off an image does not send the post.

When editing a photo selected through **From your campaigns**, a prompt can offer **Replace in campaign** or **Keep the original**. Replacement updates eligible unsent posts; already-sent posts keep the original and are not sent again. Read the replacement report and **Open the campaign** for items needing review or that changed meanwhile.

Deleting a saved photo removes it from the shared gallery; photos already used in campaigns stay there.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Recovery |
|---|---|
| Gallery or preview unavailable | Use **Try again** or refresh the gallery. |
| Could not save the image | Keep the editor open; edits remain there. Retry before leaving. |
| Edit saved but not added to gallery | Use **Save to gallery**. The result can still be downloaded; do not mistake this for a completed gallery save. |
| Daily AI image allowance used up | Try again tomorrow; ordinary editing remains a separate workflow. |
| AI edit failed | Current edits are unchanged. Adjust the request and retry. |
| Campaign draft is full | Remove a media file from the draft, then retry the Photo studio handoff. |
| Replacement partly failed | Read the report and open the campaign. Retrying does not resend posts already updated. |
